Build Your Own SEED System

The systems we have developed are an innovation in beach cleanups, microplastic removal and marine debris assessment. These systems allow others the ability to help our global community start tackling a deeper layer in plastic pollution removal. Below we have three videos that showcase each step of our process and system. We encourage you to watch and share each of the videos to learn about the process and then download the instructions to build your own!

Step 1: Build Buoyancy Separation Device

Seed created The Buoyancy Separation Device to help remove micro-plastics from our beaches. This simplistic but effective technology is the first step in removing this plastic from our beaches which can then be separated even more so with our Trash Time Machine and Sieves. Click and watch the video and then download the instructions to build your own Buoyancy Separation Device

Step 2: Build Trash Time Machine

When cleaning plastics from our beaches, some natural material is captured as well. To separate the synthetic/plastic material and the organic material such as sticks and wood, SEED developed the Trash Time Machine. The TTM uses a vacuum and a pump to facilitate this process. Click and watch the video and download the instructions for you to make your own Trash Time Machine!

Step 3: Build Sieves

After we have separated the micro-plastic and organic material, we can then separate the plastic by size. By implementing a series of sieves, you are then able to track marine debris and visualize the impact of plastic.  Click and watch the video and download the instructions for you to build your own set of sieves!
